This root of a tree stump had a cavity that reminded me of a nest, so I placed three rock “eggs” in it a year and a half ago.  Since that time, it has been deep under water for two lengthy periods, emerging today as the level of the lake drops again.  All covered in a layer of silt from the last 5 months, but still just where I placed them.  The original post is here.
